I give up. After two broken socket wrenches and four attempts by four different local shops to remove my front pulley bolt I am giving up and ordering a rebuilt shortblock. Here is a list of builders I have found on this and other forums. Let me know what you think of the builders, stories good and bad.

Atkins Rotary

Rotary Resurrection

Mazdatrix

Mazdarotaryengines.com

Pineapple

rx7.com

rx-7store.net

KD Rotary

I'd personally stay away from Atkins. Dont know much about Rotary Resurrection. I've heard good things about Mazdatrix. Dont know much about Mazdarotaryengines.com. Pineapple is somewhat hit or miss these days. I've heard some horror stories about rx-7store.net lately. KD used to be pretty reputable, but once again heresay hasnt been to great lately.

Also check into Gotham and RotorsportsRacing.com.

I continually hear good things about both of them and my new motor is gonna come from one of the two of them in the next couple of months.

Don't forget speedmachine!

Dude! All you need to do is melt the loctite off the threads. Go get a propane torch and hold it there for 5+ mins. Then go at it.

Out of all the shops I would spend money at, I think yawpower would take it if I wasn't capable of rebuilding it myself.

I tried a propane torch for about 15 minutes, no luck :( . A couple of guys recommended map+oxygen or acc.+oxygen and get it red hot! Seems like that might cause some colateral damage.

try 2 more things

1. put a breaker bar on it, and then hit that as hard as you can with the handle from your floor jack, you are going for shock value here, we broke all kinds of tools and then WHAM hit it hard like that popped it loose

2. my friend puts the motor in a press and somehow pushes on the bolt/breaker bar with the hydraulic press, it works and its easy, if you've got the tools

A friend of mine had a crap rebuild from atkins that I ended up tearing down, fixing the porting, and resealing it. Nothing blatantly wrong, just sloppy work throughout. Id spend my money elsewhere.

I still build engines from time to time. If you want a price quote, send me a PM.

I had 2 engines from Pineapple:

First last 5K before a bad iron rendered it useless. Teardown revealed I was not sent what I paid for.

Second Engine: Sent with no oil squirters installed in E-Shaft, Lots of RTV in the Oil Pump.

Just my documented observations and experiences.

First you need to somehow ancor down the flywheel/rotation assembly correctly, so there is no play when you apply your might. I took it off with a 1 foot breaker bar after heating it for about 5 mins.
