So what's the consensus on using an S4 and S5 rotor housing. I've gone through several cores and have a perfect one of each. I know the trailing to leading plug spread is different. What would be the effect? I not too worried about total timing being an issue, I'm running pretty conservative with my Haltech. I'm expecting to make 350rwhp with this engine.

TIA, Scott

I wouldn't risk it because of the timing... I guess it just on how long do you want it to last? If I were you I would try to find someone to trade one of the good ones for a good one of theirs so you would have matching housings.

Hopefully that made sense https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Go back and get all the housings from all the cores and sell them to an alum. scrap yard. Keep doing this until you have enough to buy a brand new matching set.

Didn't think about that... I'm sure I have quite a bit of aluminum laying around. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

BDC responded to post of mine on the mailing list. He said he had no problems doing this on his last engine making more than 350 RWHP. I agree that the PREFERRRED way is to just get another housing. I'll persue selling some scrap and see where I get. It's just that every dollar I spend on the engine is taking away from a new turbo. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

Thanks, Scott

good luck

i have tried using S4 housing on rear and FD housing on front before. (both turbo housings) that engine ran pretty good, makes about 265hp at the wheel on stock twin turbo. infact, that engine is still running~ I took it out and sold it, and the person who bought it is still driving around with it, hasn't blown up yet.

The casting and the material in the two rotor housings are different too. The S4 housings is not as good as the S6+ housings when it comes to taking heat.

pretty good, im surprised it would last that long. has it been driven hard on a regular basis?

driven HARD HARD in very regular basis hahha...

i think since its not running crazy amount of boost, it won't blow up that fast. But I still think its always the best to use the correct housing.
