"After over two years of intensive development efforts, we are announcing the availability of new, heat treated alloy apex seals. These seals offer 700% more bending strength and are 33% harder than the current after market competitors (Atkins and Hurley)." Too good to be true? |
Are they 2mm or 3mm seals?

doubt that its true
If no-one else has done it b4 me, I'll try a set in the next motor I build up...
I just ordered mine. The engine is going together soon.
Since they are using you to test the product I would tell them tto give them to you for free!
Pay Mazdaspeed7 for promiting this forum over on the evil one. Do you know what his avatar text says there?
Just got mine a few days ago, shouldn't be more than a few days before I can get it back together. I am interested to see the long term though, if they really do prevent the edge grooving.
Well I'm about to order them for my rebuild..
And my engine will be assembled in a week or two, woo!!!
But seriously, I have had them in my hand and they are very professionally made. Each seal is numbered one thru six, along with each matching end piece. I guess I should try to break one with a hammer or something to see how brittle they are, huh? |
Life time warranty https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png What will they pay for if they do fail because of the apex seal? It would be worth it if the replace the housing/rotor. I am sure I could break them!
the lifetime warranty says "stock applications". I dont' know if that's stock engine/turbos or if we could have a stock engine with aftermarket turbos. Either way, I may try these out.
I just ordered 2 sets. The first set will go into my naturally aspirated fc. The 2nd will be for my fd if I like them. Mazda wants over $60 a piece for the new 2mm 2 piece seals. Thats bullshit.
I'm wondering if they are going to need special clearancing?
Actually the only thing that I had to do was trim them down a lttle, just like you do to the side seals. That was all.
trim them down like how?
If you match the numbers, from the main piece to the side peice, they are already the right length...
Thats why they number them... I got a couple of kits from rotary aviation just prior to them announcing this, I think these are the seals that are running in my s5 sp 13bt, so far so good, I have been up to 16 psi a couple of times and life was good afterwards...Maxt |

I have a set of the rotary aviation seals on order for my 20B rebuild. The clearance question is one I am curious about too. Other aftermarket seals need special (ie non-std) clearances. Is there anything about clearances in the documentation? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png |
RobboMaz,
If you match the numbers, from the main piece to the side peice, they are already the right length... Thats why they number them... BTW, why you didn't mention in your signature your other steeds- bunky Toyota ute, and Family wagon? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
I'll put those on when you put your Rolls Corniche and Bluebird ATESSA on yours...... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

I'll put those on when you put your Rolls Corniche and Bluebird ATESSA on yours...... Done. Now for you. BTW, our seals are on their way, UPS no: EC105596446US. You can track them at ups Alright? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
I ordered 2 sets for myseld and one for Jspecracer7... We'll have to see what kind of abuse we can put them threw.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Only problem is all the engines I've built are still on the road and running so I've got nothing to test them in yet..
Keep us updated once you use them Dragon, mine won't be in the engine before new year.
Happy now Andrew? |
I'm going to start fixing my 2nd gen soon. Maybe have it back on the road by the end of this week. I'll let you guys know how the seals are.
I just ordered a set of them on friday, they go up to full price on the 1st so order now and save $30!
ill be running them in my partial bridge with 9.7:1 rotors, wonder if they will last.. |
**** me man!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif Just when you think you know which seals to go with for the rebuild, some **** like this has to pop up. I wish I knew how to tear down and build my own engine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif These decisions wouldn't be so painful. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683431.gif

Ordered a set today myself. not a bad deal, If anyone will put them to the test it will be dragon
