I went to my automotive supply store and asked to see if they could get Hylomar, but with no luck.

They told me of another product that is ment for rebuilding rotary engines called "Curil T". It's made in Germany and all the labels on the package are in German and I can't read it. It's this weird funky green colour, I am going to try it today to build a motor and I'll see how it works.

Just wondering if anyone has heard or even used this stuff before?

Curil works just fine, used it in my 6port.

I read on a different forum a while ago (a Husaberg forum) that there a few important differences between some of the sealants available especially for the husaberg engines as they dont use gaskets and rely on the sealant. The non setting sealants tend to expand when there is no air ie when the two halves are torqued down this can create problems with bearing clearances and the like. where as the silicone sealants that set or cure dont expand

the hylomar/vseline is used to hold the water seals in place assembling the engine. if there were no gravity you could do it without anything.

So what you guys are saying is that I don't need Hylomar or any other product like it? Just build the whole motor using vasoline?



I was unaware of this, I assumed you needed the Hylomar in there to help seal things up better.

Well, not quite.



The Vasolene is only for sticking seals and "O" rings in place for assembly. It is not a sealant at all.



A sealant (not Vasolene) is required along any surface that is not "O" ringed or gasketed.



Anyone who sells Loctite or Permatex products has (or can get for you) Hylomar.





I use 100% GE siliconeII in a Caulking gun. But in only very thin films. Same with Non hardening permatex. Messy and hard to clean up. But works just fine.

Ok thanks for clearing that up, I kind of figured there should be some sort of sealant on the rotor housing to iron surfaces.



What colour is Hylomar? I used the stuff about a year ago and now can't remember!
