How de-carbonized the rotor by scrubbing it in a parts washer and some varsol. The sideseals are stuck. When I say stuck they are litterally flush with the side face of the rotor. How do I get them out? I don't want to damage anything... Should I attempt to dunk the rotors in something like carb cleaner and try to get them out? Should I even dig them out with something? The rotors are mint except for this problem.

Make a tool from stiff sheet stock that will fit into the groove. Grind a little hook on one end. Use a small vice grip to form a fulcrum. Shove the hook under the end of the seal and pry up using the vice grip clamped onto the sheet stock. You have to make one with a big offset to get started with it down into the corner seal hole. i work em side to side in the groove, and then up. usually this takes a sacrifical side seal though, they get brittle...

I'm venturing into my first major major project. Previously the most i've ever done is pull engines and install suspensions.
In terms of shop supplies is 37 USD for a gallon of carb cleaner considered a lot? |
