i tried using a renesis front cover gasket on a motor i build a month and a half ago... no leaks yet. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

for the fc's, you could just slap the gasket on and be done with it--but i'd rather cut that top bolt-hole location off so you son't cut your fingers when you're working in the engine bay.

I dont get the reason behind this. I have used the stock gasket on 3 fd's and at least 8 fc's and none of those leak. Why would I want to pay 300% more for the same results?

the fd's are really picky about the front cover gaskets, ive seen many blow out. the metal gaskets wont blow out, and you dont have to scrape em

guitarjunkie28 03-10-2005 11:37 AM

greg,

the gasket is $7

and run an fc motor for 50k+ miles and see how many leaks develop --even mazda remans.. it's the nature of the beast

the reason behind it is to prevent leaks over a very long period of time, while keeping things clean from not having to use rtv. sorry if you don't get it. it just seems logical to me.

Ahh, for some reason I thought it was spendy.

I have seen the stock (from the factory) blow out but not ones that have been replaced. Plus a couple of well placed whacks with a punch is just as effective.

Sorry, just not my cup of tea, Ill stick with the punch method.

Pretty good tip, are you torquing it any tighter?

guitarjunkie28 03-10-2005 05:20 PM

nope.. i got a really shitty 3/8 impact that only zips stuff on to about 15-20 pounds.. i zip the bolts once, then run them in snug with a ratchet.

why didn't i catch my spelling mistake earier?
