I was reading on Mazdatrix's website that Mazda used a looser clearance on the side seal to corner seal on the renesis than the earlier 13Bs. My question is first, what is the factory clearance on the rx8's side seal to corner seal and two, do you think it's worth the extra time to get the new uncut seals and tighten that up? I'm rebuilding a renesis equipped with a turbo running 8.5psi and the engine took the abuse fine for about 25K miles or so and was running when we took it out of the car (although it suffered from 70psi compression equally across all faces). My original intent was to measure the hard seals, if good - keep 'em for now, if not, replace them and put all new springs in. The idea is just to freshen this engine with MILD porting, just to get the compression back up and not spend an obscene amount of $.

Thoughts?

Are you sure it didn't detonate? Isn't the Renesis CR at like 10:1 ? Just wondering how you deal with that and put 8.5 PSI into it.

Sorry I know I'm not answering your question....

Wish Mazda would bring the Turbo. I drove a Rx8 and wasn't impressed, So the 350Z is on my list.

I would go with the smallest clearance allowed by Mazda, but no less. The new engine exposes the sides of the rotor to exhaust gasses, so the extra clearance should close up during use. Compression must be checked with the engine at operating temperature, and the throttle wide open.

Yea - I cant vouch for how they did the compression test. They just brought me the engine. I've rebuilt older 13Bs, but I was wondering about the renesis.

Do you know what the renesis' clearance should be?

Regarding the detonation - no, it didn't detonate. It actually has a good tune and ran great AFTER we put the standalone on, the emanage was a different story.

.

you look at the marks on the rotor, and order the seals for that mark....

Yea - I knew about the letter markings, but I was hoping to see if they NEEDED replacement since we're trying to save a lil doe on this build...

It's all good though - rebuild has moved onto the paint and put back together stage now....
