Ok, so I assembled the motor a few weeks ago and all went well apart from the fact that the motor is too short. I took Lynn's advice and made some raging cardboard spacers and that worked fine to get some play into the e-shaft. I haven't yet properly installed them with some sort of silicone or anything as the motor is just sitting on a table.
Anyway, so just before I decided to chuck the inlet manifold on the motor because it was getting in my way and the fricken motor is so short that the manifold won't fit. I'm going to attack the manifold with the old mighty dremel and get the thing on, but this is getting beyond a joke. I don't mind skinny irons, but housings can't shrink can they??? There must have been a ton taken of the irons if I can't even get the inlet on..... I guess I could have got away without side seal springs and maybe used them as toothpicks or little kebabs or something. On a side note the engine and gearbox came out of the soon to be rotor car today, and its waiting for its new rx7 crossmember.. |

So .005" off of each would shorten things up a total of .020". Do that twice and you have to hog out the end holes in the manifold to get it on because you are short at least .040". Not a problem. It will still run. Just be sure that the rear stationary gear and bearing are not touching the radius on the rear throw on the crank. Lynn E. Hanover |
