Are the Series 4, 5, and 6 oil pumps the same?
Only requirements difference I can think of is the S6 had to feed two turbos. If they are not the same pump, can an S6 pump be fitted to a S4 front housing/front cover? Any info appreciated. TIA, Steve C. |
i think the bolt pattern is different, but the guts of the pump arent much different, afaik

I know the S6 pumps run at higher pressure, but that's really
the OPR's job. Maybe the S6 was mod'ed a bit to handle the higher pressures? Mazdatrix has two different PN's. S4&S5 are the same S6 is different, but the part actually costs less (first time I can remember seeing an S6 part for less $ than an S5!) I think I'm mainly concerned about volume. s |
Hmm...so the pumps are the same, just that the S4s are mechanically controlled?
|
haha, I'm pretty sure both oil pumps are mechanically controlled https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

they are run by a chain

I have yet to do a rebuild on mine so I'm not too familiar with the intricacies of some of the systems.
I was just basing that on all the talk I've heard about the OMP on the S4 being mechanically controlled, and the S5 being electrical. The only difference is in the way the pump is controlled then? Either via the rod that leads to the throttle shaft on the TB for the S4 or, whatever electrical inferface the S5 uses? |
i think we were talking abotu the oil pump for the engine, the metering oil pump on the pre 89's is controlled by a rod and a lever, while the 89+ cars have a stepper motor to move the lever
