So im rebuilding my motor, like some of you may know. I took it out and disassembled it, ti had about 50k on the rebuild and was running strong no real problems (except the turbo)

I am now rebuilding it and runnign a t78, standalone, bla bla bla.

I figure its best to replace the oil seals for safety's sake.

On atkins' site it lists viton oil ring inserts, oil ring springs, and metal oil control rings.

I was just wondering which are the rotor oil seals? and what are the metal oil control rings? should i replace my metal control rings or what?

i know his is such a newb question but i figure its beter to ask then to build half-ass.

Viton oil ring inserts are what the oil seals are.

Oil ring spings are just that they are the springs that go under the metal oil control rings.

Metal oil control rings are what the viton oil ring inserts go in.

Get a Haynes manual and check your tolerence on the rings. If 50K on a rebuild and everything was new when it was rebuilt the the metal oil control rings and springs should be fine, like I said check the tolerence, but if they were used parts when the rebuild occurred 50K miles age you have to put in consideration how much mileage was on it before that rebuild. If the rings and springs are good to go then all you have to replace is the oil ring inserts. Hope this helps you out.

i forget if youre planning (expecting?) to have the engine apart soon, or wanting it to last forever.

the rotor oil seal o rings need to be changed, but everything else as long as it looks good is slow wearing. so if it didnt burn oil and you arent planning on it lasting forever, id reuse the metal seals, they usually last 100,000+ miles

if you do want it to last forever, just get new ones, and springs

yea im gonna be getting new everything except side seals im trying to decide if i should get the metal seals too.

ill see how close to the specs they are.
