Hi, a year or so ago i picked up 2 12a's out of a junkyard for a good price a figured they would useful to me one day. One was seized and the other you could turn by hand. I tore down the seized one so i could learn and to see exactly the condition. I have found alot of surface rust on the side plates and on the rotors but this is fixable would be fixable with lapping and sand blasting the rotor faces.

Any way my main question is that on inspection of the rotor housings i have noticed no wear on the overall face but right on the very edge about .010" in from the end there is a little grove along the majority of the housing that you can feel with your finger nail.

Would you recommend using these or just srcap em?

Also since i do not know the history of these engines i have, would you recommend getting the side plates lapped smooth(regardless of rust). Do many of you worry about this on a rebuild? Should i take a runnout check with a straight edge and feeler blade of the rotor housing to determine there condition. I really hate oil leaks on my engines and would hate to have a dowel pin leak on a new rebuild due to a warped housing.

Thanks for any input.

0.01" I wouldnt have a problem with at all.

As for the side housings, the best bet is to measure the wear and refer to a factory manual to see if it is within spec. Im sure you could find usable wear specs online if you dont have a factory manual.
