Hey

so the story is if ya rotor housings have shrunk past mazdas specs, and other than the shrinkage the housing is good to be used again, rather than tossing it out is there anyway to get it useable again?

cheers

Cut it down to fit a 12a?

How big of an issue is this? I cant say I have seen it before. Did it shrink the width?

hsmidy 11-07-2007 05:32 PM

well the problem would be if its shrunk then its likely to leak past the water seals, yeah width was sorta just below the exhaust port.

yeah i know it could be machined down to a 12a but i was looking for a way to selvage it for a 13b.

seems a shame to have to throw it out when thats the only prob, was thinking maybe devcon and then machine it to build it back up , dont know how well it would work thought

couples issues. it shrinks because the rotor housing face isnt flat anymore, this is bad.

also the water seals need a flat surface to seal on, the width is only important to fit the rotor. but thats not a huge deal, they have you measure the rotor width and housing width.

also it depends on how bad it is, and how long you need it to run. if its something like .002" then its prolly a runner...

the 80's guideline is to just double mazda's tolerances.... so if mazda says apex seal to rotor housing clearance should be .002" to .004", the 80's clearance is .004 to .008... not that that would have been measured in the 80's anyways...

yeah, but in the 80's couldn't you buy rotor housings for $50, seal sets for $100, something like that?

yeah, ralphie showed me a return from 1992 in 1999, and prices had gone up by 30-50%...
