Hi
My idea for a jet boat is to mount a rotary engine on top of the jet unit and drive through a Gates Belts and Pully system. I will need a counter rotating engine. Can the end plates be swapped when rebuilding the engine? Thank you for your knowledge. |
No they can't be swapped - it's not that simple.
You're best bet is an opposing gear to reverse the powerflow direction from the flywheel and drive your boat with the opposing gear. |
how about just running the engine backwards? peripheral intake side exhaust? youd need to find a way to spin the oil and water pumps the correct way....

FD waterpump but belted like an FC.
The oil pump would need to be an extrnal racing type. |

Sandwich a plate between the engine and pan to support a bearing ahead of the front pulley. So the crank nose is not placed in bending. Piece of cake. Lynn E. Hanover |
Haven't the airplane people done this sort of thing? I thought you could just turn the engine around like Lynn mentioned. I'm no expert and have no experience with this, I just remember reading about it.
