Default How many is too many??

Just a thought, (i'm still learning about the wankel engine, so bare with me) but if the wankel engine design is basically like a big Lego build then how many rotaries can you 'realistically' put together before it becomes inefficient. I've seen 3 rotary, 4 rotary, 6 and even 12 rotary builds on YouTube but how far can you go before, I guess, you reach like maximum power? That's a dumb way of saying it, i'm sorry, but I imagine you can only offset each rotor so muchso that the rotaries are firing at mostly different times keeping the crankshaft constantly moving at high rpm's. Looking for some insight, and maybe correction with my thought process, thanks!

The size and length of the eshaft limits how much torque it can handle.
