when taking out the omp assembly is there anything i need to block apart from putting on a plate on the outside of the front cover? have been told there is something that needs to be blocked when taking out the omp shaft and if this isnt done then the front bearings dont get enough oil. any one can help out. cheers

the only other thing you should block other than the OMP itself is and oil injectors themselfs.

you mentioned the shaft, so im guessing you have an S4.

no it is a series 6 rx7 block wit a 12a turbo front cover. im taking the oil pressure regulator from the rx7 front cover and putting it on the 12a turbo one. so im going to make a plate for where the omp used to bolt on to the front cover. i already know to block the oil injectors, but what im wanting to know is can i just take the whole omp assembly including shaft and the omp itself without blocking anything else apart from the plate on the outside. or ami going to have problems?

cheers

oh...you'll be fine. just be sure to run pre-mix if your doing this.

I recommend blocking the OMP oil feed if you are not going to use the OMP. Its the small (~1/8") hole in the flange near the CAS. If I have the motor apart, Ill tap the hole in the block and put a set screw in the block, but if the engine is already together, Ill just tap the front cover and put a set screw in there. Just be sure to seal it good in that area.

Plenty of people have left the drive shaft/gear for the OMP in place, and not blocked off the oil feed and not had any problems. But when mine spun a bearing due to the feed not being blocked off, it destroyed the front stat gear, main bearing, the complete thrust assembly, and the eccentric shaft. I had to completely disassemble the engine and replace all of the above parts. And that was with brand race bearings throughout.
