I had oil leaking front the front cover and had the dealer replace the gasket. About 6-8 months later it finally died. I beieve it lost compression on the rear rotor. I decided that I would try to rebuild it myself. After removing the oil pan, I found trust bearings in the bottom of the pan. I am guessing that this was due to the mechanic at the dealership replacing the front cover gasket.
Now I am trying to decide if I should attempt the rebuild myself or use the core for a rebuild. Every shop that I have seen require an unassembled core. Based on the presumed cause of the engine failing, is there any way to tell if I can get away without new housings, rotors, or e-shaft? |
sounds like that shop owes you some money or a short block, at my shop if something like that happens we stand by ower work and fix what needs to be fix no coast to the customer

I'm looking into them making it right, but I'm not expecting anything. I've had issues with them before. Just looking at alternatives right now.

be professional about it don't get mad and if need be bring up the words "my attorny advised me that" in conversation and it'll help get things rolling

it definately does look like it was the mechanic's fault, but no real way to prove it :(

I'm not sure if your housings, rotors, or e-shaft could have got damaged. Unless the bearings entered the housings somehow. The best thing to do is pull out the motor and dissassemble it then you'll truly now, whether its rebuildable, or just good for a core.

if something got ate, chances are it got picked up by the oil pickup and circulated through the engine.

I guess I'll just tear it down and see what I have. Hopefully my first rebuild won't be too traumatic.
