Rear main seal popped out

This isn't really engine build related but I have a question about rear main seal issues.

so a few months ago I noticed I was loosing oil from somewhere and realised it was my rear main seal after my clutch started slipping.
I removed the small access plate on the rear iron/bell housing to look inside and notices one half of the seal was popped out almost all the way so I carefully pushed it back in with a long pry bar. The next day it happened so I put some high temp gasket sealant on the seal and pushed it back it. And it seems to be holding I did some hard pulls, as much as I could before my clutch would slip because of the oil that got on it.. and it stayed in place.

I plan to replace the seal and clutch this weekend so and I really don't want to ruin my new clutch by contaminating it with oil again. So just to be safe I plan to put some sealant around the out side of the seal before I put it in.

would there be any problem in doing this??
iv heard someone say use non sealing rtv but how would non sealing rtv help seal it. And what is the difference. The seal isn't supposed to move is it? so I don't see the problem in sealing it just to be safe.?.? Because this clutch was not cheap

also other than the seal just being defective what would cause this to happen? Bad side seals maybe??
and would that appear on a compression test?

thanks for Any help!!
