Ok so I have to fix a small problem on someone's car (Not Mine, I Swear) they have a fucked up hole and the plug won't go in straight.

I've tapped and heli-coiled tons of piston engines, and never gave much thought about any tiny metal shavings left in the combustion chamber. SO

If you did it what method did you use to extract the shavings? Also, what thread size are the plugs? I gotta drive 25 miles to go do this, I want to be prepared!

Damn that blows, I wouldn't want to have to do that one. Which plug trailing or leading? Not sure how you are going to get the metal out, the plug holes are pretty small.

yes it is rotary, leading 1 plug hole.



Maybe a vaccum? If you move the rotor so the apex seal is a little below the plug hole you might beable to remove what ever goes in the housing.

Ya exactly. You can use a vacuum by putting the hose right over the hole when your done cutting. A shot of compressed air after that is not a bad idea either. But first as I think toddp31 mentioned you would want to bring that rotor around and have it sit with one of the apex seals just under the leading plug hole. Somewhere in my snap-off box I have a compression tester set. The hoses have quick disconnects that will attach to a air line. I have had to do this twice. I cleanup the hole, but the tester hose in the trailing hole and attach the shop air line.



The comment above about aligning the apex to just under the sparkplug hole will help as well.

thats actually a factory test, you put air into the spark plug hole and look in the radiator

I have all the tools, been in this buisness for too long, just never tried to tap the hole on a rotary. I'm just wondering the consequences of some shavings getting in. In a piston engine, it really don't matter that much, plus it's easy to get out

Well it took 2.5 hours to get the tap to go in straight, but once I lined it up, it went right in. I used alot of grease on the tap each time I passed it into the hole, so most of the shavings came out, cranked it a few times, put some anti-sieze on the plug, plug went in fine, car starts, car runs https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
