I'm buying a rebuild kit in about a month and even though i was sold on the RA seals, i think i might go for all OEM parts. this thread on the evil forum is what scares me, well that and another member reporting there failier in a PP motor in 15 minutes:

How do you think the racing beat kit stacks up agains the RA? granted it doesnt have the oil pump chain and is 200 bux more expencive, its beggining to look like a good deal, maybe i can get racing beat to send a partial kit and still use the RA soft seal set,.. |
there is so many discrepancies in that "report" i wouldn't hold it as important feedback on the seals. i mean, he hasn't even tore the engine down yet. many people have been raving about the seals as very high quality. yes people have noticed more metal expansion with the seals but with the proper engine building skills you shouldn't have to worry about it. in my opinion i think he has problems with his porting design and probably mis-measured while clearancing. either way time will tell. by the way RWS seals are the only apex seals ever produced with the exception of the stockers to have a warranty on them if used in a stock application with new rotor housings. with that said, even if you plan on not using a stock setup, that would be a huge deciding point.

well bascially big t is right, we dont have enough info to say how good or how bad the ra seals are. i mean theres a lot of variables, and not a lot of real data

seriously though no one over heres had any problems with them? How many have used the entire kit? was it all good quality stuff? no burning oil or coolent from the soft bits? no abnormally low compression? what clearence is everyone running? i was gonna go .02 groove and am undecided on the side housing clearance, any suggestions for the RA seals if i run them? Thanks. |
I have the RA seals. I haven't had a chance to put many miles on them yet, we just got the motor running last weekend, but wile we where in the process of getting everything going we where cranking the motor with the full injectors off as to pump oil though out the system. With the fuel injectors off the car was trying to start on pure compression alone. This is on a hbp motor with out me even holding the throtle open. So i would say they diffently dont have a problem with weak compression, for me at least.

I bought their basic kit and everything looks pretty good, except for their corner seal rubber insert. They give you his string of rubber thats in a shape of a C, looks like a solid round rubber rod with a groove in it. Your suppose to cut it to fit, i had problems putting the apex seal into the rubber insert once it was in the corner seal. I decided not to use the insert at all. I just rebuilt my motor today and everything looks and sounds good. I love their reuseable two piece tension bolt seals, and yes its reuseable. I had to take my motor apart for some stupid reason and they did hold up. I remember someone said that they wanted to test the new RA seals, I have a spare apex seal, the big piece, i actually lost the small piece and had to by another seal. But i forgot who it was, anyone remember?

There is no problem with my measuring or my porting skills, I rebuild machines that operate at tighter tolerances and with more parts than a 13b,for a living .... My car ran great to, for the first 10,000 km's.... I was a raving fan of these seals to till the last week, in fact when I first started my car I was like wow, not even broken in yet, and its starts like that.... I just took some measurements of my other set of RA seals that I have not used, that I will be sending back.... Not one of them measures the same as the other, a couple of them taper from one end to the other, with measurements at .076 at one end down to .072 at the other, that means you could plop in a feeler guage at one side, and get a .002 clearance but if you measured the other you would have .006 clearance |
