General rotary question here. In regard to apex seal strength. Detonation aside. What is the greater evil?
1) Running a small turbo @ 12psi producing X amount of CFM. 2) Running a larger turbo @ 8psi producing the same amount of CFM. For the sake of arguement let's assume a stock built S5 13BT will hold 12psi from a stock turbo and that's the limit. Can't hold any more. We have proper fueling mods and detonation is not an issue. Will the same motor take 12psi from a T04E which is pushing more CFM at the same pressure and live the same life? Again fuel is adequate and detonation is a non factor for this discussion. Will the added CFM and thus greater effective compression ratio result in too much pressure on the apex seal causing a broken motor? Thoughts???? |
apex seals are very strong and can withstand alot of hp without detenation
pv=nrt cfm is just a volume flow measurement. What's in the air is important (density). V is constant (volume of ic piping/tb/intake etc) but pressure is different between your two turbos. your number of o2 molecules will then be drastically different assuming the temps are the same. your two turbos are not putting the same power out |
