Sorry, I have done quite a bit of TIG welding on aluminum. There is no way I would ever want to use a flux setup with a torch. ICK https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png But then again I have never tried it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

But thanks for clearing that up. We just call it a "torch"

Gregory

There was gas welding of aluminum long before there was TIG. My Mom was a welder at Curtis Wright before North American Aviation took over.

They trained the ladies to weld aluminum with just blue glasses a gas torch and some water based flux on the filler rod.

The next time you see a war bird at an airshow, look for an oil tank. Gas welded BT, (before TIG).

I have a 600 amp Hobart, so it has never come up, but this year at the Sun&Fun flyin at Lakeland Florida I took a turn at gas welding aluminum. I was giggleing like a school girl. It is so easy, and the weld is so nice looking. When I get some time I will make a setup to practice until I get 1/10 as good as my Mom was.

The picture is from the bottom of the engine just after a race. Those are scavenge out lines to the pump. The rod end thingy prevents fore and aft movement of the engine.

Mariah Motorsports in Monticello/Santa Barbara can do it. They'll charge $50 labour (one hour labour). How far is that from you?
