Hi everyone, as the topic description says, what would be the first step and what tools to used when practicing porting, before I put my hands in the engine,I might rebuild my engine maybe next summer and would like to do a street port on my own rather than pay to someone else to do that for me.

Any suggestion on how to start gaining expirience on porting?

Thank you

i would buy some used 12a housing and work on them. as far as tools you could go with a air die grinder or go to sears and get a rotary tool that goes up to 30,000 rpms be sure you get the correct bits otherwise you would just be buying new ones every few hours and read all you can. go to the FAQ section and read up

As a matter of fact I was just reading judge ito therads very good info, but thing is I'm new in this I have never use a rotor tool, I was thinking in getting the RB templates and a junk yard engine and start practicing before i try it in my engine.

Thx for the reply

Yes, do practice on a junk housing for your first couple of ports. Practice is what turns you into an artist.

Don't port your own engine you'll **** it up and **** up my paycheck. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Lol, just kidding. Seeing as you're in the US theres no point in try to get you to have me port it for money so i'll tell you how to port. You need an air compressor and a die grinder. You can use electric drills and things like that but you are better off with air powered tools. You can always more the ports a bit bigger but you have to be careful to make sure that everything is smooth. I got 15 more hp out of my FD just by polishing the ports so the air gets in faster. Go to your local teng(?) dealer and ask for a car porting kit or I'll try to find some online places that sell them and pm the sites to you. But anyway in the kit just use the round stone and lightly buff the ports as to not cut away major metal, and there you go, 15 more hp. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Oh and make sure to rebuild the engine with new seals while you're porting it. Pm me if you want to know how to port match your engine and induction because I'm too tired to type any more.
