Hanover that's interesting! i always wondered why F1-Intakes are shaped the way they are. generally the roof, which transports the air to the rear of the car, is rounded. the bottom, which transport the air to the front of the engine, is flat. like Lynn said, a "D"-shape. that's comparable to our engines: the long part of the runner which ends in the closing edge of the port, and the short side of the runner, which ends in the opening edge.
