I went out to the shop last night thinking I would take a picture of one for you. Well I can't think of what I did with two of the 4 rotors I own with pinned bearings. I cannot find them. I have since discovered that I can no longer post pictures, so it didn't matter.



The idea of pinning the bearing is that it is used as part of one method of increasing bearing to crank oil clearance. You can polish some material off of the crank. You can sand the overlay off of the bearing and run on the copper. You can install the bearing in the rotor and then machine the overlay off and run on the copper. Or you can hone the bearing hole out a bit in the rotor and then install the bearing with almost no crush fit. This is where the pinning comes in.



You drill and tap 3 6-32 screw holes in each end of the bearing through radialy into the rotor iron. You countersink the top of the hole and install 3 flat headed 6-32 socket head screws. The holes are about 1/4" in from each end of the bearing. So, you end up with 6 little screws holding the bearing in place.



Done only on lightened rotors that will be used north of 9,500 RPM most of the time.

this is great info. i've been curious about this process for a few months now, but have been busy with other issues. i have a pair of rotors that will be receiving this treatment when i get around to it.
