Long time reader, first time poster so go easy on me :-)



Whilst I was having my engine rebuilt I managed to grab some pics of the porting on my plates. Unfortunately I didn't get any exhaust port pics. It is apparently a mild port (primary and secondary) and was completed prior to having the rebuild. I didn't change the porting whilst rebuilding but am considering it in the near future. I just wanted to get some opinions on the porting work and whether to consider opening the motor back up and doing some additional work - might even go bridgeport. I should also mention it is a S4 13BT with a T04Z with all the usual supporting mods; Microtech, FMIC, 3 inch exhaust, 4x1000cc injectors, twin bosch fuel pumps, etc, etc. so the porting maybe restricting my power a little (in my opinion anyway).

Secondary ports are pretty conservative. Just depends on your goals. Here is a picture of my primary port in my 10th AE to give you an idea.



What are you wanting to do w/ the car?

Thanks for the pic. The car is basically a daily when I'm not away for work, but I am hoping to get into the drags a bit more. Plus you can't beat the sound of a bridgey. I am just trying to decide if this porting is restricting my power (size and condition) and decide whether to open it up and go bigger (or bridgey).

I would clean up the primaries and enlarge the secondaries for what you are looking for. You need to get the proper turbo for your goals. If you are dailying this car I would not bridge it. How much power are you trying to make?

I was chasing around the 350-400 HP atw mark. I made about 320 HP with a T04z with 1.32 AR rear but have since moved to a T04z with 1.00 AR rear to reduce the lag (both @ 15psi). Boost comes on about 1000 rpm earlier now but HP went down about 20 HP. I have heard of people making easy 350 HP with similar setups so thought the ports might be the main offender.

My first thought is bad tuning. That turbo should do 500 whp at 15 psi on a streetported motor, and not much less on stock ports. You have issues somewhere, but porting isnt restricting your power. People have broken 700 whp on stock ports.

Yeah it would be good if its not the ports restricting power and something else. Yes have heard of people making much more power with similar setups, so initially thought the ports.



The tune was performed by a reputable tuner but was done on the conversative side of things cause of stock seals. I might look at the exhaust and see if it might be restricting things a little. Or as mentioend maybe try a different tuner.
