I took apart engine on FD and noticed this scratch or running along the inside of the front housing. The scratch is not deep but is noticable.

Will I be able to reuse this housing or what can be done (resurfacing???) or just get new ones?? Please help

that looks like a chipped seal, or somethign going thru the engine. u need a new housing

kahren 05-29-2004 12:52 AM

also, it looks like u are gettign some apex seal chatter. what do u rev the motor to is the omp gettign enouf oil? are u running premix? maybe nto enouf?

yeah that housing is done, get a new one

Damn that sucks.

The engine was running fine, compression over 100 p.s.i front and back.

The apex seals are in tact and rotor has no scratches or grooves.

The rotor does seem to have lots of carbon deposits but in good shape.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif I was just going to get a street port but now I have to buy a housing.

Would it be better to change both housings?

if one housing is gonan be in agreat shape and the other one not so great then i would think about gettign similar ones. u ultimately want to have both rotors makign same power.

check your oil metering pump if u are still using it, u are gettign seal chatter, and that motor doesnt look to old, why is it appart?

Motor actually has 100k miles on it. But ran great.

Motor is apart because I wanted to go ahead and get a monster street port and go single turbo but I didnt expect to find this. How do I check if the OMP is working?

It does have lots of oil around it that could be the problem

at 100k miles everythings usually too worn out to reuse, the fd's are hard on engines

if its only scratched in the exhaust area, i'd reuse it... im a poor college student though so im used to ghetto rigging stuff,..

I took my housing to SIDEPEX and was told that the housing was no good and will have to replace. They were doing a rebuild on a 3rd Gen that had the same problem. The corner piece of one of the Apex seals fell off and was spit out through the exhaust port. Mine was still stuck on the side of rotor.

No wonder I couldnt find one corner piece. I thought I lost it.

I guess my rebuilt will have to wait a little longer.

Thanks guys for feedback, I really appreciate it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Any one have an idea how much a new rotor housing costs?????
