looking into buying a car that, at the moment doesnt run up to 100%. first i need to get a new carb for it, and also this is what he said what happened when someone came to look at the car today:

we also tested for spark just for the fun of it. we discovered that the trailing coil is not sparking. after replacing the coil it still will not fire. so there must be something wrong with the ignitor or wireing.

i was planning on fixing the car while im there and then driving it back so i wouldnt have to rent a trailor for it. what would be the best way to diagnose the problem and then fix it for the possible problems. the engine is a 6port, and its in an RX2. it has "new painless wiring" that is close to being finished, he said that you just need to wire up the headlights and turn signals. wonder if he messed up while trying to get the spark? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Whenever a car is "not running 100%", the very first thing you should do is check the ignition system. If that's not up to snuff, FIX IT. Engines can run surprisingly well with horrid carburetion, within limits, but without proper ignition you won't get anywhere.

I know someone who was fighting running problems for a year. Different carburetors, regasketed the intake manifold numerous times, plugged this and that off including the brake booster, always ran like dog poop at idle. Finally, he spent the cash for new plug wires, and the thing runs like a top.

Well, a top on its side, anyway.

yeah the guy who im buying it from doesnt really know what the problem with the car is, just what the guy who he bought it from told him. he bought the car to fix, and then got married and is buying a house now so he hasnt had any time to work on it. but this is what he was told:

The car has a bridged 6 port. Nice BRAP BRAP BRAP. I am told it was built by R&R Rotary. there is something wrong with the Delorto 48 carbs as the car starts right up but does not have a whole lot of power. the previous owner was saying that there is something that is broken in the carb causing it to flood. I never got a chance to take a look at it, but yeah, it smells RICH! Since I bought it in March I have yet to go out there and work on it.

For those of you that are going to ask what the car does when running (since I said it is running poorly). It starts right up with no problems, but when you rev it up it sounds and smells like it is flooding out.

Car also has a second gen tranny in it (no not TII). I am told it has a 1st gen rear end in it. (nice Posi rather then the single track it HAD). The clutch is pretty obvious it is not stock, I would guess stage 2 or 3. (the day I bought it I drove it up to Jack in the box right up the street).

New painless wiring that is 75% completed. (headlights and turn signals need to be finished). the hood is black. Sorry I didn’t get any pictures of it with the hood on. The hood is in ok condition, not great, but no major dents. (The reason I say ok, is it looks like they took the skin off the frame and screwed it back on to the frame. I would have this fixed when getting it painted.)

so maybe its not the carb at all, just just crappy wiring.
