Newbie to Rotary's: Just got a 13BT FC3S

Hi guys just bought a second hand 13BT and have completely rebuild it. I need some help since i dont know a whole lot about Rotary engines, just want to know how i could make this engine into close to 450Hp engine?



My budget is around the 4K-5K mark and if you guys could tell me what mods or changes or a list of parts that i would need for this built. I will be using this as an everyday car but also a track car. Its a series 5 13bt Stock and just had a fresh rebuild with all seals and everything new.

p.s: if you guys could help me out with one other thing i would like to install this engine into a 1990 E30 BMW 3.20i. Any of you guys done this?? would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction as to what thing i would need to address into putting this engine in.

ive seen a rotary BMW before, so its been done and it fits. it was so long ago though that i don't know any details (actually the BMW engine mounts and FC mounts are similar)



450hp? you need more fuel, bigger injectors and pump, and a larger turbo, and an ecu to control it.



something like 4 1000cc injectors, or maybe a little bigger, big pump or two.



zillion choices with the turbo these days, you need something in a larger T4, like a gt40 something like that. depends on the use too, a drag turbo would be bigger, than a street or road racing turbo

I'd probably take it back apart and run 8.5:1 series 4 rotors. What seals did you use? OEM seals cut into 3 piece seals is probably the best seal out there right now. The rest is what Mike said.

apparently mazda is supplying 3 pc seals again? i didn't get a memo on that, but i guess the parts are here

What people are doing now in Japan is taking the 2 piece seal and having it wire cut into a 3 piece seal like the originals. There was big write up I read a year or so ago on this, and the trend has continued in this year. Some of those shops in the article were users of NB seals, PTS, Iannetti, ALS, when it came to big power builds. They now proclaim the 3 piece seal the best seal for any mega horsepower application. The split seal stops the main body from taking excess heat, so it doesn't warp. The trick is as always with oem seals, you have to know how to tune a motor to really make it work.

I am willing to bet you will see a copy cat aftermarket 3 piece seal soon, the problem again is material compatibility, which no metallic aftermarket seal has mastered.

I had heard rumors of the rx8 going 3 piece as well, and the 13b turbo seal going back.. I looked at the 2009/2010 Mazda Japan EPC and they are still 2 piece. Do you have 2011 epc yet?

nope, we get quarterly updates. the seals are now N351-11-C00C, i don't recall off the top which one that is, and it doesnt say, i've just read that people are getting a) 3 pc seals from mazdausa again and b) confused

I would suggest going with a reputable shop's turbo setup with proper manifold, WG, and turbo - along the lines of a GT35R, "GT3574", 62-1, Precision 6265 or the like - fuel rails with upgraded injectors (you'd be fine with just 1680cc secondaries) an upgraded in-tank fuel pump, FMIC, you may want to consider some sort of auxiliary injection, and again, a proper standalone ECU.



First, you should run a compression check on the "built" engine, and find out exactly what parts went into the build, any porting that may have been done, and who built the engine (and to what specs) before you proceed.



For 450hp, I'm not sure if you would want to tear the engine apart again unless you absolutely have to, again depending on the build job and parts used.
