I can attest to the starting right up when warm with lots of missing chrome thing. Ever since I pulled the 13B from my REPU and stuck it in my MG, it now fires up within 1 second of cranking when warmed up fully. The engine used to be very hard to restart if it stalled when warm in the REPU. I looked into the ports and saw lots of missing chrome (the metal under the chrome, actually), but it's way less than Mike's.

I thought my engine's missing chrome would always be a problem for hot starts, but having installed a light steel flywheel right before puting it in the MG, has helped the starter to get the engine up to a normal cranking RPM sooner than it did with the stock heavy flywheel. I'm sure the MG's less restrictive exhaust and better fuel pump are helpful too. Cold starts were never a problem in either vehicle.

I think those housings have done sterling service and should be allowed to live out the rest of their days peacefully. With a rope tied to them and a float at the other end to mark where your boat should be... Or stack them one on top of the other like I do and make a groovy rotor furnace to burn combustible rubbish in?

j9fd3s 12-16-2003 11:31 AM

haha i like the furnace idea that's great. yes i think those housings are retired, unless i decide to try porting or something, if i blew a motor with those housings it wouldnt be so bad....

Another motor with those housings? Well, yeah I guess they are just about bedded in... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png
