Jude Ito's Extreame Secondary Port
#1
why not make the port as wide a possible? Like a bridge but without the bridge? You said in one of your how-to threads that the extreame secondary port in the pics was reliable even though the side seals fall into the port a little...since they're already unsupported, why not make the port even wider?

I tried your extreame secondary port but didn't smooth the closing edge transition enough and broke a total of 3 side seal. No damage, plan to fix the mistake. I was just wondering what else to do with my ports while the motor is open again.

the short answer I can think of is: Ito's port is as far out as you can go without the corner seal fall into port, the corner seals are supported, not fully but supported enough not to cause reliability issue.
you need to re-read the pined section, slowly and carefully.
I am going to say this one more time, do yourself a favor, check your ports with plaxi glass, you will learn much more than you can read, things will start to make sense to you very quickly, if you have not done the plaxi glass trick yet.

with regards to that port...that is something that Ito said he has done before and he prefered not to do that for most customers. He felt that the longevity that most guys expect may not be there for a daily driver.
With that warning I took it any way. It was my call and he obliged. No I have yet to finish the car. That is an example of the outer limits of reliablity and is cool if you race or build your own motors.(I have others)
If you want to be that radical I gather the bridge is the better way.

Also if you are going to cut the port really far back like the "ITO" port make sure you take out the rubber insert on the corner seals or use solid corner seals. That little rubber insert will fall out. I use solid corner seals on all my motor builds. That's just a preference the stock ones are perfectly fine even without the rubber insert.
