expecting less work travel this year so im goin to start my build..

hoping to finish by end of year.. ported a new set of irons a few years back.. ala JI template..

yeah.. thats right.. a few years back.. its been sitting since and a haze has developed on the surface..

looking to lap it by hand using a compound.. anyone have any recommendations.. type and grit..

and what do you folks use to protect the surface of the port for the lack of a better term..

where the shaft goes.. im thinkin painters tape of some sort.. any ideas..

pics..

you can use any valve grinding compound as per mazdatrix they use permatex they said it takes a while to bring it down hours to be exact. in the video they did not use anything to protect the ports i guess the grinding material is very fine. pm me if you want the torret i have

gio if those are the housings i ported for you, those were brand new. no need to lap them. even if they sat around.

the irons you ported were set aside for spares....

after hearing of your plans to retire.. felt the need to preserve them to have as reference..

too much of an artwork and skill to see disappear.. decided to grab your template and practice on junk irons..

ported a great deal number of wastegates and match port manis as well for a while..

polishing turbo housings... piping.. etc also helped me fine tune and develop my patience..

im still leagues away from gettin there but since im doin this for myself only.. im at my own pace..

took the leap a few years back and ported another set... took me a while to finish as it was nerve racking..

these dang irons aint cheap new..

cool.. was just concerned as they are no longer the same color finish as when taken out of the box..

they were silver.. they are now greyish brownish with some spotting... still very smooth though..
