I am just wondering how many people out there have rebuilt there own engines? I have done a few and would rather due it myself, but some people are not that way. I learned alot from doing it myself, something you don't get letting someone else do it for you.

i do mine, its something id rather do myself too, i have bad luck about letting other people build motors, for some reason it takes like 5 years when i dont to it

I rebuilt my first engine a few weeks ago. It was a 13B 4 port. My next engine may be a 20B. I'll just see how the MMO treatment works out.

Silver Ninety Three 06-11-2003 03:02 PM

I did mine myself.

mazdaspeed7 06-11-2003 08:21 PM

I always build my own motors, and do my own porting too. After one bad experience, I dont trust anyone to do my motor for me...

toddp31 06-12-2003 09:09 AM

If shops will cut corners if they can get away with it! I think that bad shop rebuilds have killed more Rx7's than anything else!

pengaru 06-12-2003 12:54 PM

I did mine...

toddp31 06-12-2003 01:30 PM

I though there would be alot more people than this by now......

I've done rotary speedster's engine and my own. I'd rather not pay someone to put their dickbeaters all over my wankel.

75 Repu 06-13-2003 02:21 PM

I did mine for the Repu.. And will probably do the Vert one next year..

I would not pay to have someone play with my wankle.. I can do that myself..

rx7machine 06-13-2003 10:12 PM

I wish I was smart enough to rebuild my own engine.. my n/a may need one.. but I've thoght about selling her..

toddp31 06-16-2003 09:27 PM

It really isn't that hard, if you have any mechanical skills that is.... I love side seals! The people that have done it know what I mean

I've never had a build related failure from KDR. It was always from tuning.

13_b_kid 06-17-2003 11:43 AM

ports were crappy though

85TIIDEVIL 06-17-2003 09:56 PM

I tried over the winter... I wouldn't call it a rebuild. The only thing new was a $120 gasket set. EVERYTHING else was pieced together from 3 blown 12A's. The finished product has LOW compression and sounds like it wants to start... I'll pull it apart again... I BET the next time I get it to run... I've learned SOOOOOO much since then.

BigTurbo74 06-18-2003 02:21 AM

so did everyone buy rebuild kits or specific parts from dealer?

charlie boy 06-18-2003 06:02 AM

I havent rebuilt one yet....

but my dads third gen is loosing water somewhere so im guessing i might be having a go soon, it cant be that hard.... can it?

all of the parts have to come from mazda anyways (unless you buy different apex seals, atkins for example)
