Use driveway cleaner from autobone or Kragen. It's stronger than Purple Power. Soak the rotor in a bucket.

I’m way more conservative – PB Blaster & a junk screwdriver with the tip ground into a lifting tool to dig them out.

Back from the dead....



Had a customer bring in an engine for core use. Tore it down and 11 of the 12 side seals fell out. Engine was pretty cherry actually. One side seal was a bugger. Half of it came out with some coaxing. The other half wouldn't budge. I could run a .001" feeler gauge down the side of the seal for about 75% of it's remaining length. The one spot that was obviously stuck near the middle of the rotor produced rust when dragging the feeler gauge over the area. I had already soaked the rotor to remove carbon so I knew carbon wasn't holding it. I had used a razor blade to pick the other half of the seal out and now used the razor blade as a punch and tapped it with a hammer to try to move the seal along it's groove. When you manage to hit the blade square it actually makes a decent tool. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif No dice. Figuring it was rusted in I tried Lynn's muratic acid trick. That got the rotor squeaky clean but wouldn't budge the seal. I heated the rotor. No dice. I froze the rotor. No dice. My buddy finally suggested driving the seal all the way down in the groove to break the funk. The spring had already been pulled out from under the seal. Laid a piece of old seal on top of this one and tapped it down. Then used the razor blade to drive to seal out toward the corner seal. Worked like a charm! Cleaned the groove up and laid a new seal in and it clearanced up nicely with no binding.

An X-acto blade driven under the seal works great.

Now this is semi on and semi off topic. I have stuck side seal IN my motor, I know because I have 80 80 80 compression on front rotor, and 80 80 30 on rear. If it was a apex it would be 80 30 30 or 80 0 0. I have a really hard time starting the car (I have to turn off the fuel pump unless its super cold) and I can really feel it when in boost at low rpm (anything under 3000). I have tried water treatment, and seafoam. They both helped make the car run smoother, and much better at higher RPM, but still has the stuck side seal. Any other ideas?
