This is my first time rebuilding a motor and I have some questions its a standard 12a 4 port I am going to do a full big bridge port and run an 48mm IDA carb (as big as I can without touching water jackets etc)
so first up where can I get big as bridgeport templates? Eccentic shaft questions Whats the best way to polish eccentric shaft? I have a couple small scratches how do I get them out? Also the bearing in the eccentric shaft is a prick to get out, any tricks? Also I found no spring or bearing in my oil jets whats up with that? |
Ok I know these are dumb questions but its easier to ask first just to be sure, I'd say polish the eccentric shaft with some metal polish and a rag after getting out the scratches with some 400-600-800-1000 sand paper to get the smae original finish, and the oil jets having no spring or bearing was someones attempt to improve the oil flow?? but please tell me that there is another way of getting that spigot (I think thats what its called) bearing out other that breaking it by smashing the bearing housing and pulling all the little bits out.
Please reply this time. |
I read some where that some people use newspaper to get the pilot bearing out. They wet the newspaper pieces and then they take a dowel and hammer it into the hole. They keep packing in newspaper until it pushes the bearing out. Then just clean out the newspaper, install the new bearing and seal then grease it to perfection.

Dont polish the eccentric shaft! Dumb Dumb Dumb! Instead use sandpaper to give it a honed look that will hold oil. Go with lines about 60 deg to eachother.
To get out the pilot bearing use a slide hammer. Sounds like somone thought it would be a good idea to remove the springs and ball. |
Did they have any little inserts pressed into them? to reduce the flow? For a street motor, I'd leave the springs and balls in. |
