Here are some pics of the build of the 1/2 bridge RE. We street ported the primary ports, opened up the exhaust ports with TII sleeves, and bridged the secondaries. The ports are GINORMOUS, LOL. Check it out.[attachment=29975:attachment][attachment=29976:attachment][attachment=29977:attachment][attachment=29978:attachment]

Sweet setup.

R.P.M. 04-10-2005 09:03 PM

Looks pretty good, but I have a friends RE motor apart and we compared the secondary ports from his RE to the secondary ports from a T2 motor and they are both the same size. The only thing that make the RE ports look big, is the fact that lower intake manifold comes in on more of an angle.

RE87FC 04-10-2005 10:08 PM

I dont know about that, I can get three fingers all the way through the secondaries on the RE, and struggle to get two through the ports on the TII. They are a LOT bigger.

guitarjunkie28 04-10-2005 10:51 PM

same port size as fd's, but the runners are taller. creates a venturi effect.

good for low end--i'd assume that's what it's all about since it went in the cosmo.

Ok, so are you talking about the port where the intake bolts up against? If you are, then yes, they do look bigger. But the actual port inside the motor looks to me, the same size as T2 ports

ArmyOfOne 04-12-2005 10:14 AM

What did you use to clean up the runners and such? They look a little rough.

I cant wait to get my hands on a Cosmo block. But thets gonna have to wait a couple of months.

guitarjunkie28 04-13-2005 12:17 PM

you want the primaries rough to add turbulence.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/bsflag.gif This is the last inch of travel, Velocity is king at that point and turbulence is bad. These need to be smoothed out.

GMON 04-13-2005 12:36 PM

Not to mention that the injector is dead center in the port. No reason for a rough surface here.

guitarjunkie28 04-13-2005 12:56 PM

that's true for the closing edge--not for the runner.

R.P.M. 04-13-2005 09:19 PM

Ya man, you want turbulence in the runners to swirl up the air to mix properly with the fuel.

guitarjunkie28 04-13-2005 09:28 PM

he won't listen because i said it. he's pissed off about soem mis-information i called him on about apex seals.

R.P.M. 04-14-2005 12:12 AM

Ok, but would that sound right to you guitarjunkie28? It makes a whole lot of sense to me!!

guitarjunkie28 04-14-2005 12:50 AM

sorta.. it's not exactly to swirl the mix--rather keep some turbulence along the port wall so the fuel doesn't stick to it.

but even so, i think it's less of a concern on the secondaries. by the time they're utilised, the air should be moving faster (and more of it), so there's less chance of that happening. also, the heated air from the turbo (if applicable) helps keep the fuel in mixture.

just a hint, you know the pri runners got only air inside untill the last inch or so before get into the chamber. can you remember where your pri injectors are?

you got the right idea about a/f mixing, but.......

i've never seen anyone polish half the runner, but i know what you're talking about.

Lets think about this for a sec. Before the injector should be nice and smooth. After the injector is about an inch of travel and its also the port outlet. Your saying you want turbulance here. Yeah, didnt think so. Also, on efi cars you dont need to worry about the fuel atomizing good enough in areas like this becuse you use whats called a FUEL INJECTOR they are amazing little things that atomize fuel.

The only reason you dont want a shine on the surface here would be becuse when you get on and then off throttle quickly the fuel can come out of atomization becuse of the quick pressure change and a shiny surface can make that happen easier. However, this area is also hot enough where that is really not much of a problem.

So there ya go, I have just dispelled every one of your rough surface points. What say you?

Ive ported to a shine on both pistion and rotary aplications in areas just like the primarys and had absolutely no problems. Gives that added low end grunt. Carbs are a different story however but who the hell still uses those??

guitarjunkie28 04-14-2005 11:11 AM

exactly how well do you think a fuel injector atomises? yea, it's better than pissing fuel in with a carburetor, but it's definately not a perfect world--especially when you use bigger injectors.

if you really wanna mix it up, talk to richard paul about injecting fuel into an axial-flow supercharger....it reaches the point of homoginisation.

guitarjunkie28 04-14-2005 11:12 AM

btw, i think we have a different definition of rough.

GMON 04-18-2005 08:36 AM

[quote name='Dramon_Killer' date='Apr 14 2005, 11:04 AM']That was just an ignorant comment. I know many people who still use carbs, and can think of three off the top of my head. One of my friends has a 68 SS Camaro with dual quads. Another friend just swapped a 454 into his Chevelle and he uses carbs. Finally, a kit down the hall from me has a GTO and his tripower uses carbs.

All of these cars are hella fast and i'm pretty sure they can beat most of these cars on this board in the quarter.

So before you start making ignorant comments maybe you should think about what you're saying before you look like an idiot.

I still use carbs too you ******* stick but not on my turbo rotary. Go read the context when I said that.

I think your bs has reached the point of homoginisation. I use 1600's on a port I can see my face in with absolutely no problems.

1Revvin7 04-18-2005 12:26 PM

I agree with what GMON has said entirely. You never want turbulance in any runner.

you might have a little bit better luck convincing people if you'd spend less time trying to insult people and more time trying to prove yourself correct.

Oh your message was very clear and i'm just saying that plenty of people still use carbs. In fact I can't think of a single one of my friends with muscle cars or cars made before 1975 that are EFI. Even my friend's dad's 62 corvette is carbed and tahts a corvette!

fc3s4utnv 04-20-2005 12:45 AM

Im putting my 2 cents in on this one bc I used to build and port heads.

You DO NOT want the intake runners "smooth", you DO want them alittle coarse for ATOMIZATION. Atomization is the key to a good running combustion engine. Like Guitarjunkie28 said you dont have to worry as much with smaller injectors bc you are using less fuel in a smaller area, however when you have larger injectors, say over 450cc, you do need to worry about your intake surface. Larger injectors tend to pool fuel anyway, so you would want a rougher surface for ATOMIZATION. If you belive this is false proove it, I have spent alot of time working on cylinder heads, not really rotaries, and this is all from persanol experience.

Say for instance I had a 1991 Acura Integra, with a B18 DOHC VTEC, we buit the bottom end, built the top with double valvespring (dont even get me lieing as to the specs I cant remember) titanium retainers, and some other crap, I left all the porting marks in the runnners AFTER the injectors and the exhaust side was smooth as glass, when the vtec engaged in first and secong gear it would bark the tires. I dont know if any of you have experience with Hondas but that is an accomplishment for NA and off the juice Hondas.

RE87FC 04-20-2005 11:19 AM

Just want to pt my input in since it is my thread, lol. We left the runners fairly course, not overkill, because this car will be out on the streets handing Corvettes, Vipers, etc... their asses, and I dont want fuel to pool in the runners when I'm sitting at a light idling. I think it would be beneficial to polish out the runners on an NA thats not using big injectors b/c its having to basically maually draw in its own intake charge, where as this motor is going to have a big ball bearing turbo stuffing air down its throat. I agree with guitarjunkie on this one.

guitarjunkie28 04-20-2005 12:02 PM

i didn't mean to start a fight- i just don't like being insulted by under-educated guys who don't know what they're doing.

fc3s4utnv 04-20-2005 02:00 PM

I feel you, You do not ever want the runners smooth after the "injection", on any car wether it be na or forced induction, bc at idle na cars a forced cars produce the same amount of vacuum. Now na cars you could probably do them alittle smoother than forced but I wouldnt want to be the one testing it out.
