Anyone know what 13B/12A engines weigh as a shortblock?

More specifically for me I'm curious what an S4 13B wieghs as a shortblock. I did a brief search and didn't see anything.

Thanks.

shipping wieght on a short block with water pump and flywheel is 275lbs, so its a tad lighter

kahren 03-16-2004 11:32 PM

just the engine no flywheel is 190 lbs, shortblock with NOTHING on it

That's just a touch over what I had figured. Oh well.

Thanks guys.

What about the RB aluminum plates, does anyone have a figurer on weight if you were to run all three plates?

I wish someone would produce them at a reasonable rate to make it worthwhile to get them, think how cool it would be to have aluminum plates and then have scalliwag spray them with armcore C for the contact surface.

Looks like RB quotes the plates as being 10.5 and 13 # for intermediate and rear plate

http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda3.htm

“As an example of the significant weight savings: a stock, intermediate housing on a 1993 13B turbo engine weighs 25.9 pounds, while the Racing Beat aluminum replacement weighs just 10.5 pounds, nearly a 60 percent weight savings. The stock rear housing on this same engine weighs 25.8 pounds, while the Racing Beat aluminum replacement weighs just 13 pounds, again a savings of nearly 50 percent.”

If it weighs 190 shortblock, then it could possibly weigh in right around 150 for aluminum plates shortblock…damn that would be nice.

How many boingers can claim that kind of power to weight ratio??

i think a honda b18 motor weights about the same as the 13b. i woudl have to weight the honda block again

There is no front plate.

Imagine it's because of the bolts being tapped into it, but last time I heard someone check RB didn't have front plates.

i think they just dont have any left and dont plan on reproducing them, maybe they leave it on the site to gauge demand.
