Well after a long struggle I put my motor back together yesterday morning. I actualy built it 3 times. The first time I stacked the motor and started to assemble the front cover and the damn oil pump key slid right into the oil passage way under the eshaft. Tore the whole motor down and found the key. The second time, I had the motor stacked and was inserting the 2nd apex peice, and one sliped and fell right down a tension bolt hole. Had to tear it down and start again. Well after all this bs...... I got the motor stacked, turned it over by hand, and called it good seeing as it was 3 am.

I installed the motor into the car and got everything connected, and after struggling with my fuel cut of switch and just the right ammount of cranking and throttle, got the car running. Started and smoked for about an hour. It holds a rough 750 idle, and drives like a champ. I have awsome oil pressure, and my coolant temps are low (no thermo temp.) I am staying under 3k and NO boost, and it has about 150 miles on it now. I absolutly can not believe how awsome this car is driving just up to those 3k rpm's, its totatly different with this monster street port.

Whats got me is..... I have a noise comming from the front of the engine. It almost sounds like the oil pump chain. The best I can describe it is a whirring sound. Almost like a unbalanced clutch fan assembly. I spec'd out everything in the front cover and triple checked that I had the thrust and needle bearings correctly installed. I get no vibrations at high rpms or anything funny like that, it just sounds..... odd? Any ideas what it could possibly be?

My only other question is how long of a breakin should I have. I am using used turbo housings, all brand new seals, and dont quite know who to listen too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

What engine accessories (PS, AC, air pump, alternator, etc.) do you have installed? Sometimes those make noise. Check the belt tension -- that can make them more or less noisy sometimes. Maybe get a stethescope to pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

Did you reuse bearings?

If so, you dont really *need* to break in the motor much more. Change the oil and have at it.

did you remember to plug in the relief air silencer? it's the hose that goes to the acv. (assuming it isn't removed)

despite what people say, keeping the motor below 3k rpm's is bad news. there is less load and strain on the engine @ 4k than there is @ 3k. also,, the added vacuum helps pull the seals out and seat them better and faster.

don't ever lug a fresh rebuild!!!

the rpm's aren't the most important thing--just as long as you don't rev the piss out of it. light load is good for break-in.

Theres absolutly no emissions on the car. The only belt driven item is the alternator, which made no noise before. Yes I reused the bearings, seeing as they were just about perfect https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

Ok I will not lug my rebuild https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.
