Okay, I was somewhat bored and began running some crazy ideas through my head. For some reason, go-karts popped up and I got to thinking about how they sometimes use two engines to get more speed. Anyways, awhile later, I thought of some different ways to set up a car to get a lot of power, and this idea of a dual 13b car popped into my head. I don't think it's very plausible to place both in the front, but maybe one in the back in addition to the front engine might work. I mean, it could be similar to a MR car in that aspect. Of course, this leaves a lot of issues. Synchronizing the power and shifting of the car could be hard. Plus, this poses the question: is it worthwile to have both engines add power to a RW drive setup, or set an engine to be used solely for the front tires and another for the back, creating a sort of AWD set-up? There are plenty of other issues involved, of course, but the idea popped up and I felt like sharing it with some people. I guess it could be a pretty expensive project eh? You would need two transmissions and have to be able to shift them simtaneously.

Also there would have to be some sort of limited slip between the transaxles, think about it if power output varied at all, or one engine stuttered you blow one of the transaxles to pieces on pavement.

This might seem weird, but in fact I have seen a tractor with 2x 13B motors behind each other. It was at summernats (a once a year car show) in January 2001.

I might speak to some of the Aussie members and see if any of them have seen it too. I'll get back to you with some info.

Don't ask me how it is done but this was done a long time ago on early 30's and 40's dragsters. One guy put 4 V8s onto his car but took them off because he realized the weight was cancelling out the extra power. i have seen tracter pull races with people using 5! blown v8's at 1 time.



i also have seen a boxer 16 vw engine, they hooked 4 vw engines up in series, crank to crank and had one monster carb in the middle with a hell of alot of intake runners going to each engnie.



the vw method may be a viable way to do it on a rotary. hook the front rotary's e shaft up to the back rotary's eshaft where the pulley would normally go. then just double your pleasure, double your cooling, ignition, intake, exhaust...



it would still probably weigh less than a single detroit iron:P

Doesn't the Escudo have two V-6's, one to power the front wheels, and one to power the rears? Would it be possible to mount a 13b in the trunk and set it up like Porsche's?

i was reading about the 30's straight 8 cylinder alfas and they take the power from the center of the engine, its possible to do that with 2 13bs?

This is not an uncommon thing to do in the UK ... lots of different cars have been built with two engines.



It started of years ago when Grass track racers used to fit two 1litre bike engines coupled to a common output to their cars (sub 350Kg cars!) and then its gradually spread to kits cars.



Thers also the slightly more unusual ones that use two car engines (usually FWD Engine transmission combo's) and these have been done wit Mini's, Golf's (Rabbits) , Fiesta's (you didn't get these but Ford made them) Audi's etc. etc.
