Mate of mine just took delivery of a new custom box he has been waiting for for some time. Put it in, but unfortunately things didn't go to plan. I won't mention who it was built by as this issue hasn't been sorted with the manufacturer of the box yet. Gears are exactly what where asked for but it looks as though there was an oversight in the measuring department. Took a few pics and just thought I'd share.

Im sure things will be sorted but it just sucks that he has to wait again. Plus the damage that has been done now just sucks ass. Poor guy.

This looks like an American style 4 speed with the GM (Holden) fine spline car, input shaft splines. I think the pickup truck input is the longer of the two.

The Chevy pilot size is just a couple of thousandths smaller than the Mazda and works fine in the Mazda pilot bearing without modification.

It also looks like the clutch plate was damaged during installation or, is the wrong spline. For a two or three plate setup, an actual steel input shaft must be used to align the disc splines. One of those plastic alignment, input shafts is not at all close enough.

If a spacer is being used between the bell housing ans trans face, shortening that might get you back in the game.

What that throwout ring on the pressure plate is rubbing on I have no clue.

How about some more data?

the fd has a "pull" type clutch, that thing where the throwout bearing rides is the retainer to lock the throwout bearing into the pressure plate

I am too old to hear about things like pull clutches. It looks like a T-10 or Richmond gear version of the T-10. But all are similar. I would love to hear about it. Does it come in a dog ring version? Price?

Sorry after posting that realised I hadn't told you what happened.

What was happening was when in neutral and being shifted into 1st gear (tried this from a stand still also on all other gears) there was a grating and crunching sound. When he pulled it apart found it to be the clutch teeth and the teeth on the input shaft grinding together.

The shaft on the new box is 14mm shorter then a stock shaft. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

The inside of the clutch near the end that wold have been grinding is now chewed out. There also seemed to be a little more play in the new shaft also compared to stock. We don't know if this was caused by grinding or if it was like this when he put it in. Since the shaft was too short it's also just chewed out that ring on the inside of the fly wheel and e shaft, I guess from not sitting right in where it was supposed too.
