Put 800 miles on my rebuild before the seals went out and I could no longer drive it. I was wondering why the a/f mixture on the PLX-M300 kept changing in stages....it was the seals breaking. I followed Jude Ito's write-up on extreame seconday porting...where it violates the path of the side seals and I didn't make the transition smooth enough. Sucks...i was close but obviously not close enough to the required amount. Now i get to do it all over, AWSOME! At least i can replace the RA springs everyone says flatten out under boost. Why not right? Enjoy the pics and don't make the same mistake...

Missing two chunks of side seal on the rear rotor. Notice the blow by (black parts)

[attachment=30097:attachment]

side seals that were still intact had begun to round off on the tips that fell into the secondaries

rounded side seal

that sucks, but at least it was a learning experience.

GreyGT-C 04-14-2005 12:11 AM

learning experiences get expensive after a while though... good luck on the next one dude.

GTUs 04-14-2005 04:48 AM

I bet you did not check your ports with a flexi glass to check where the side seals riding on, if you did, you will see it is an obvious mistake you can avoid.

oh well, you learn and get smarter next time. just like Lynn said it, you get older and smarter, there is no way around it.

the bright side, yeeeha, new rebuild....

Were you using Ito's Template?

pvillknight7 04-14-2005 09:05 AM

Nah, no templates. Just common sense...Jude Ito doesn't make tmplates for his extreame secondary port.

Here's Jude Ito's extreame secondary port pic I used as an example for mine.

[attachment=30105:attachment]

Different angle....

[attachment=30106:attachment]

You can see the side seal falling into the port https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR ...no, it's not a mistake

[attachment=30107:attachment]

Rounded off closing edge for a smooth transition...you can see on my ports I didn't round off the port enough and it could be extended outwards a little (where the scrap marks are on the closing edge) Sucks, it felt like it was a smooth enough transition.....UGH!

[attachment=30108:attachment]

It's not too bad money wise...prob. cost like $200 for the new side seal, o-ring kit, and OEM Apexi springs (nice to have friends that work at the mazda dealership https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub... ) Them discounts add up

np...haha, now i know why the oil smelled like gas so bad. I thought i was just running too rich. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

guitarjunkie28 04-14-2005 04:27 PM

have a look at the primary port from a renesis motor (bad angle, sorry)

you can see how you can have an unsupported closing edge without worries because the extra material in the middle is still supporting it enough so it won't fall out.[attachment=30112:attachment]

guitarjunkie28 04-14-2005 04:27 PM

anyone getting any ideas for a really big sp?
