Hey All, First time posting here. Great forum by the way! A lot of helpful people without attitudes. Anyhow I was wondering if any of you guys have heard anything about the Atkins Cyrogenic (sp) treated apex seals? I called them today and they said that they created these as cheaper alternative to Ceramics. Apparently they are Atkins regular 2 pc seal but it is Cryogenically treated. About $600 a set. Must be something fairly new, we sell atkins rotary items in the store, but I haven't gotten pricing on those. The cry treating seems pretty new to the retail end of things, by new I mean last few years, but has been used in racing for sometime. Honestly I don't know if they are worth the extra money, we sell the regular 2mm Atkins seals for $234.99 $600 is almost 3 times that. the biggest advantage they usually site on the ceramics is the theory that when they go they totally dissappear so you don't damage the rotor or housings (in theory).



I have been very happy with all of the items I have purchased and sold from Atkins so i am sure they are a good product.



Anyone actually used these? Like I say seems like a lot of cash to me....

Sounds like a lot of mark-up. Cryo-treatment is usually 25-50 a Pound.



Also, from my conversations with Rob @ Pineapple and thru research/ The gains are only fully realized when BOTH wear surfaces are treated. Therefor just treating the seals is not as effective as treating the deals and the housings and rotors

Wow.. what a ridiculous price if it truly is just their regular 2 piece seals that have been cryo treated. To have something as large and heavy as 2 brake rotors from my GMC Yukon treated was only around $75.00. There has to be more to it that just them cryo treating them to be worth that price.



A Google search found me a place in Nebraska that will do a piston and ring set for $8.50 Each.. and will do engine parts under 4 ounces for only $1.50 !!



I may spend the $10.00 (at most) and have my new apex seals treated.

Yea like I said earlier, that's a $234.99 part and they are charging almost tripple, I will call them monday and see if I can get some more info for everyone.

That would be cool if you could get more information. From what you guys are saying that sounds like a HUGE mark-up if that is the case. Thanks for all the great feedback! Keep it coming!!

I have heard of people doing it, but not that much $$$$. I can get it done for free, just dip them in liqiud Oxygen at work and let them thaw out. In japan some shop wpc the Apexs seals and it is suppossed to make them stronger.

Mazda seals are cheaper and proven, IMO.
