I was wondering if anyone ever had much luck using a used rotor housing and new apex seals. Will the apex seals ever conform to the used housing surface so they mate ok? Does it take thousands of miles for them to mate or will it be ok after 500 or so miles?

Anyone want to share?

Also, didnt there used to be a thread around here that listed all the perfered clearances for all the different seals and bearings? I think Judge had posted a lot in it and now I cant seem to find it.

Thanks,

STEPHEN

I only use used rotor housings in my own. I have noticed that anywhere between 300-700 miles that the motor will start to pull more vacuum at idle. I have built some one run wonders with used everything that still broke in before 1000 miles.

My current engine has 3000 miles on used rotor housings w/ rotary aviation seals. It pulls about .6 atm at idle, which is about 17-18 in. Hg.

The housings were clean and about a 7-8 on a scale of 10. This engine had parts from three donor engines and also has a medium street port.

What is your idle rpm? If its 850-900 that's damn good!

It idles at about 800 after it warms up, which is when it reads .6 atm.

I'm happy with this engine. It has great torque and is pretty strong for being NA and on the stock exhaust. The secondary / sixth port is my avatar. It even gets 22 mpg if I don't redline it all the time.

used rotor housings that look good are ok i've seen em' still in spec after third rebuild .. ready to go again.. my motor idles at 750 -775 on second rebuild rock solid.. the only factor is, does the rotor last that long untill it damaged by a seal and as long as the surface is within spec and is not chipping other wise you are wasting your money..... i don't have a big ego so if you think other wise chime in... hell i might be wrong and but lucky....

Some day it will have boost . . . It's fun but not too fast. An RX-8 could probably beat it.
