Somebody in this forum has used or has experience with Aluminium Housings?

What aluminum housing are you talking about? Rotor housings? And what kind of experience are you looking for?

Braco66 08-19-2005 11:41 AM

Side housings. Any experience. I want to know if any advantage (aside from significant weight savings)

Cool. What kind of premium do those command? Is the Renesis all alloy too?

Enough that they do not make them anymore. I think they were around $1500-2000 each. But on a plus side, you could get them "blank" for a peripheral port engine, or with intake ports. Coolant seals machined or not.

No.

Yeah I wish I had the money to get those. I don't understand why Mazda dosen't make the side plates aluminum from the factory. Maybe they don't last long for a factory car but for a race car who cares. I'd love to get those for my Datsun 1200 I'm always looking for ways to keep it as light as possible. Well I just looked on Racing Beats site and they claim that it holds up better to wear than the stock steel plates. Haven't seen anyone running these plates. Buy them and tell us how they work.

Thanks heretic.

I wonder if those end plates have any sort of coating on the surface where the rotors run, like on the rotor housings?

They do a plasma spray process on them http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=11051

If they cost extra, wouldn't Mazda nix using them because of more cost? Seems like they did just that to the driveshaft of the FD, they wanted to make it aluminum for less rotating mass but the higher ups threw it out.
