Well what i am wondering is. What is it that makes jesus and all thoughs All motor rotary's so fast, i know they have a peripheral port motor's, But the best i have seen so far is like a 11.86 by a guy with a 13b MFR pp engine, he was running slicks and a stock gsl se rear end, but when they are running in the 9's running the same type engine i wonder how they do it. Is there some trick they know and we don't??Are they running heavier flywheels or sumthing for less bog, super high gears? If you have any answers please help. Thanks, mike

Heavy flywheels do nothing but make you slower. If you bog, you either need to launch at a higher RPM (and break more stuff, or really put the traction to the test) or you need a clutch with more give to it. Lightswitch type clutch engagement, where it's either disengaged or GRAB, is not a good thing for drag racing.

One thing to keep in mind. Low ET's don't mean the car is fast, they mean the car is quick. There is a difference. Take your average turbo'ed Honda that runs low 13's at 120mph. Very fast but not very quick. Poor acceleration because they simply cannot put any power down until the top end where wheelspin is less likely.

well when you can spin the thing to 10k rpms, you can run like 5.12's in the rear end, get it launched faster. plus the big slicks, plus having it dialed in right, i'm not really a drag racer but that stuff comes to mind

mike_rudy 03-05-2005 01:04 AM

ya well, i know that stuff, that is why i am putting 5.67's in my pp 12a rx3, but the real thing i am wondering is how they make as much horsepower as they do out of there engines, because it seems like alot more then i have ever seen on any other pp engine

Since they are launching at such high rpm's do you think they would be using lightened rotors, and or flywheel then ?

Play around with the performance calculator on Rotary Performance's website.

http://www.rx7.com/accel_calculator.html#

Make sure you click on the little question mark next to the title. They have Scheepers car as an example.

According to that, his car makes 340 at the wheels. If you play around using using more power to match Padilla's times you need nearly 400 horsepower at the wheels.

I would suspect. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Plus a wicked tranny and clutch required to make this happen.......

400 wheel horsepower from an N/A is greatly suspect. I have a feeling that "calculator" is feeding you an estimated crank horsepower instead. Even then, 400 crank HP is suspect. There's no accounting for the huge difference in acceleration a lightweight rotating assembly will give you.

Remember, in drag racing, or really any form of motorsport beyond tractor-pulls, what matters is not power. What matters is acceleration. There is a difference. (When you see rotary powered tractor pullers on a regular basis, then we can be concerned about how much horsepower an engine has)

j9fd3s 03-05-2005 11:52 AM

i doubt they are making much more than 350hp,

mike_rudy 03-05-2005 01:47 PM

holy crap 6.14's in his car, my god thats alot of gear

mike_rudy 03-05-2005 01:53 PM

I am asking this is because i want to break into the 10's in an all motor 12a, i don't really think it is extremely possible running 91 pump gas, because i think they are using methonal. But i will still try, i am going to be running a 2 disc clutch in a turboII trans, which i think i will now buy a lightened flywheel, dropp the clutch at a little over 10 grand and i might be able to squeek it out because the rx3 will weight a fiar bit less then the first gen's
