Hi Everyone! This is my first time posting on here, but have read through a lot of post over out the years. I have a 1988 Rx7 turbo. Im looking at rebuilding this winter but i now have a dilemma. What engine will ultimately make more power 13bt or 13re? I run a Borg Warner S372 turbo and 4inch exhaust. Will it be worth the time and money to invest in a 13re? The reason I ask is because Ive considered getting all new housings and possibly irons to start as fresh as possible. Im looking to be above the 600whp mark with very usable powerband.

Thank You,

Jose Nieves

If you are up for the swap the RE would be the way to go IMO.

I'm up for the swap. Will everything in the exhaust system bolt up to it? I'm also looking for good porting templates, I'd like to do the the judgeito porting. Whats the power difference between the two? I need really good numbers to jump on it.......

What would be the horsepower difference between a properly built REW and T2? Im up in the air about this subject. I can order new rotor housing and plates for my T2 and call it done. But i hate the idea of spending the cash and something better being out there. Im open to all ideas.

RE not REW...

RE has the "best" choice of plates. Housings depend on what you are trying to do.

Your best bet is to just get a complete RE and build that. You will not be disappointed.

Also, you can get 600+ whp without porting the motor at all with a properly sized turbo.

Is this a street car, or more of a track car?

It is indeed a street car. My motor currently is street ported. Im running a BW S372 turbo thats on my current setup. Im looking to make 600whp or above. Can I use the front cover and CAS from the T2?

I've decided on 13bre engine. Any reputable places to get the engine from? All places I've seen have no warranties on the engine and don't provide compression numbers

It's very rare to get a rotary with a warranty. Your best bet is finding one local and checking the motor yourself, which can be hard depending on where you live.

Other than that, its a guessing game.

The only big difference in the RE from the other motors are the plates and intake manifolds. So you could just buy the front, center, and rear iron and use all the TII stuff you have already. The plates and manifolds pop up here and there on a few forums and eBay no and then. Not that hard to find really.

Ill just buy a complete re block and go from there. Where should I get porting templates? I'd like them to be a big street port, preferably the judge Ito ones but I see those are quite hard to get hold of.
