hey guys n girls im new to the rotor scene here, only 16 and own a mint 86 model RX7. i am in australia and i know heaps of guys have asked about porting a 6-port and there has been heaps of different ideas and i just want to know if my idea will work. ok well for starters im looking at making a mean street NA RX7, driveability isnt a concern here, power is what i am aiming for. i am willing to run a standalone ECU if it will make it more streetable. however i do not want to spend the money on PPorting. so far if i am correct the main power gain is to have an some of the ports streetported while running a half bridge on some other ports. some specific information would be greatly appreciated. cheers

PP just do it. The 6pt setup is is more or less mung to work with porting side port with OE manifold.

Reali dont like the cost and the hassle with PPorting. i have seen the dyno sheets of some of you guys who have ported the 6 port motors. i would like to get around 175-195whp, so the specific info on what ports are ported in what way will b greatly appreciated.

You would have no problem getting those hp levels with a good streetport and a good full exhaust. Standalone wont do much for hp, but it will improve drivability.

As for you wanting to bridgeport the 5/6 ports, its been done before. I have yet to see anyone dyno one yet, myself included. But I did have one in my car for some time. It wasnt bad, but I liked the early open streetport engine I replaced it with more.

Wow, what a great thread. Almost too good to be real..

MS7, Why did you like the early open better than the aux bridge? What did the aux bridge do wrong and why?

Its been a long time, and my recollections are a little vague.

The aux bridge was run on the stock ecu only. I imagine it would have been better with a standalone, but Im not convinced it would have made a big difference in power. It was definately stronger in the lower midrange but above 5k or so, the SP had a noticable power advantage.

That being said, bridgeports require different ignition timing, that may have been more at fault for me not being happy with it. The streetport worked better with my setup at the time. Also, I didnt have the 6 port actuators, and the bridgeport decreased idle vacuum enough that the power brakes didnt work. I ended up just blocking off the 6 ports until I could pull the engine and do something about it.

Its an interesting thought, Ito had good success with an aux bridge on his rx8(to the tune of 240 wheel hp all motor). He built a S4 aux bridge than ran on the stock ecu, but never got numbers from it. The owner wrecked the car shortly after the engine was put in.

All in all, I think its possible to make it work, it may not be a cost effective direction to go. Once you start looking at what it would take to make this work well, youre in the same price range as a 4 port half bridge, which will make more power with not a big difference in drivability. Or its putting you into turbo swap territory.
