Just wondering how thick the casting around the secondaries is? If you drilled a hole sraight down from the oil seal side of the lower secondary (through the bowl) would you hit water eventually? or just come out the back of the plate? Also can you undercut the bowl area under the oilseal at all? or is that all water? Is there water behind the bowl also? Any casting pics?

It depends where youre drilling from. The runner is solid casting to the outside of the housing. But once the port starts to angle up, there is water past the casting.

Why? I can probably give a better answer if you tell me what youre hoping to do.

If you drill straight into the bowl area of the secondary from the shiney side of the plate you just come out the backside. No water. The is about 4 mm in each direction of casting.

I'm having to rebuild sonner than i though (next month insead of this summer)so i'm going to bridge the aux ports, leave the sleeves in, but connect the two ports leaving a lip for the sleeve to seal, so the piece of metal seperating the two ports will be there + about 5mm for the sleeve to seal but below that the ports will be connected like one big port, and i was wondering how much connecting i can get going, as undercutting the oil seal track will let the most air flow between the 2 ports. So, if i drill straight down from the outside (oilseal) edge of the port i'll hit nothing but metal?. Or is there water like MS7 said? And is any undercutting of the oilseals path possible? Thank you.

Are you sure to mean oil seals (near the center), or the water seals (groves aroud the outside)?

ArmyOfOne 03-10-2004 03:26 PM

You definitely need to post a picture with what it is that you mean. The only undercutting I know of is done in the port tunnel. On the edge near the oil seal you only need to smooth it out. That right there will direct te charge upwards, that is what you want.

yeah, i mean near the oil seal, ill post a pic tonight of what im planning.

Go read up more on the parts of a rotary engine and the bridgeporting. I just realized why I(as well as th eother people here) couldnt understand what youre wanting to do. You dont even understand what youre trying to do...

found some time : red is area im asking about, blue is where it will be conntected (and part of red if the casting there is thick enough.

Look for NA bridge port by Kahren on page 6 of the REBandP.

That should give you a good idea of how much room you have.
