racing beat says to replace them everytime you have the engine apart, ive never changed one. in fact ive only seen 2-3 that were bad/broken am i missing something?

I reused the old ones on my engine on this rebuild, but I have yet to see how good they work since I haven't started the engine yet.. They moved up and down smoothly so they seem fine..

The corner seals will get grooves in them from the side seals.

Honestly I would suggest that you replace them even ifthey have minimal wear. \

They are cheap and i see no reason whyyou would not want to replace them.

Corner seals and sideseals are responsible for 50% of your over all compression. Corner seals get some serious wear from regular usage. Take a used cornerseal and inspected by the sides, you will find a groove that the sideseal has made on it from regular rotation of the rotor. That increases the corner seal sideseal gap in return loosing compression and power. I like my corner seals brand new.. I will not say any names, but I bought some solid racing 2mm corner seals from a rotary company. They told me that the material was 25% stronger then factory specs. Well I tried them, Right away I noticed very little compression. The engine did not want to kick over, I checked compression and had low numbers. This solid corner seals did NOT have a flat finish and I payed the price taking the engine apart.(this was about 4 years ago) I took the engine apart, replaced them with new stock Mazda corner seals and I had my engine back to normal. Corner seals are a very critical piece of rotary engine power.

So your saying stock ones are best.



Mazda stock internals seem to be pretty damn good considering they hold up much better than most of the others.

I tell you FD3Boost I have found every single Mazda factory seal better then any other aftermarket seal I have tried. I have seen some factory corner seals break. But that was totally do to detonation. I only use the Atkins apex seals on my N/A engines, only because I use a big fat bridgeport and the Factory 2mm are no way usable.

That says alot about the Mazda engineers

I guess the saying..."Better stock than blown can be very true".

generally they do a great job, they just have different goals somtimes
