The BASE BEATER is running well. I have started to rethink my plans.

I am going to weigh the car monday. Base SE, no sunroof, manual steering and AC.

I already converted it to a Manual Trans, and Installed the GXL Booster and Master Cylinder.

I think the following is in order:

5 Lug Swap

BBS vert rims

GTUs 4.3 LSD rear

This should give me a fairly competitive AUTO-X set-up

Any thoughts?

Get a good front swaybar like the Racingbeat one.

As far as the rims go great idea very lightweight and an abundance of tires available. Spec Miata's run the same size rim. hint, hint.

Mazdadrifter buys used Toyo Proxes Racing compound tires from a local race team. The tires have one race on them and usually have a seasons worth of autocross left on them.

Is your engine strong? You can be competative but you'll need a good strong engine. I would imagine your going to run in a street prepared class? Or Stock?

It sounds like you have a nice light car to start with keep us updated.

I am installing my Pineapple Racing Stage II engine with my Miata geared Tranny https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I would love to get some of those tires in 15"

On some courses

no power steering = no fun https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

This is the setup I Autocross with these are 16" x 10" hoosiers. No power steering and 6° of caster. Yes it is a bitch to steer and I can fall behind when I get tired like when I am at a practice day or school andI have done 20+ runs. But on regular Autocross days with 4 runs I have no problem keeping up with it.

That said I am looking into installing a power steering rack. I have over 300HP so I dont think it will make a difference. Once I did a run with my A/C on by accident and didn't notice. Actually it was one of my faster runs.

Banzai, that set up will kick ass.. I switched to a manual rack for this year and I'm still getting used to it but I like it better, especially through slalom sections. If you're cheap like me and decide against the 5 lug swap for now, run the phone dial rims.. they're about 13lbs each and you can start out with Falken Azenis for $50 each from tires.com (or jump right in with some R tires). If you get the car light enough, on short courses, the single piston 4 lugs with SS lines, Motul 600 and some Hawk HP+ will work very good IMO.

Jim, the grip on that thing must be insane! Are you in prepared class? What is the weight of your FC?

Yes it is insane I wish I could drive it within 80% of its potential I would have FTD and the fastest pax to boot. I just did a driving school with it and was able to get close to its potential and win pax to other cars which is a feat to do. My car pax's poorly.

It is run in B-Prepared class. I weighs 2600 Lbs. and has 290 RWHP. We are sorting out some wastegate issues and should have 360RWHP soon. It is the only car I have ever driven that scares the **** out of me. It sticks better than I expect it too and therein lies my biggest problem not pushing it hard enough.

The steering is very heavy but I can feel understeer come on almost before it happens and correct it before it costs me time. After a driving school my shoulders and elbows ache for days but it is so worth it.

I had the honer to ride in my car with the winningest national champ in SCCA history at the wheel. I basically crapped my pants. He did 2 runs with my car and bettered my best time by over a second!! My best time was good enough to win pax on that course and he crushed my time in my car never haing driven it before. I have a lot to learn. I cannot express how freaked out I was riding with him my adrenaline was pumping to the point that by back ached.

That car is whay I love RX-7's so much. I have also taken it across Florida on a rad trip with my wife and got 17 MPG doing it. God I love that car.

OK, Today was the first Auto-X.

Ran the KYB AGX's with the Eibach Pro Springs

Ran in CSP. On the Stock Base rims with **** tires

Car had adequate power, was able to spin the tire all the way through 1st. I am definitely adding the 5 lug suspension. W/BBS rims and some super stickey tires. I have my K2RD camber adjustment bar ready to install.
