Well this is my first post here, I was boycotting the V8RX7 sites b/c I was tired of them getting moved around and deleted. I was a member of torquecentral back in the day and list a bunch of build photos that I don't have copies of anymore. But now I'm here and hopefully this forum will be around for a while. I currently hold the 15th spot on the fastest swapped rx7 list @ 10.28 @ 128mph. I have torn down this car and rebuilt it several times now, I have lots of photos to show my progress.
I'm gonna be posting this stuff from my iPhone so please bear with me lol |

This is how the car sat when it ran well enough for the15th spot.
Motor was 406sbc with "double hump" 461 casting heads. 13.5:1 on alchohol. Powerglide with a junk converter and 4.70 gears. Car was 2400# without driver. 13x31 slicks. Attachment 16603 |

Just to be clear, the nitrous kit wasn't on the car when it went 10.28. I added it later and tried to spray it. The car lifted the front end high enough make me get off the throttle then it destroyed the converter. Never got a clean pass on the juice.

So after I destroyed the converter I decided to do the body work on the car. Took a long time and I did some things I wish I had taken more time on but here is how it turned out :

After I painted it in the driveway:
Attachment 16593 Attachment 16594 Attachment 16595 This is the motor that I built to go in the car. Rest in pieces .421 SBC 18 degree heads sheetmetal intake 2 nos systems. Attachment 16596 Attachment 16597 I had issues with the valves sealing the whole time I had the heads. I took the heads to the guy who built the 406 I had before and he screwed me over by intalling the pressed in valve seats in an enlarged boss with epoxy. The valve seat came out and destroyed the heads and pistons beyond repair. |

Instead of quitting I just put the car back under the knife and decided to simplify the build. I really wanted to be able to drive the car on the street. So I added another seat a large fuel cell and had to put a larger fuel cell in. I have always wanted to do an updated version of the pro street vettes and novas That I loved when I was a kid. So this is what I have come up with so far.
One of the things I wanted to do was lighten the car up even more. I realized that while having a stout built motor is nice it always requires upkeep and they are expensive to bulild. I figured I could lighten the car up and run a reliable torquey powerplant and the car would be plenty fast. I always hated the dash in my car and the firewall was beat up and had holes in it from my inexperience in building a decent looking car. Here is what I came up with: Attachment 16590 I cut out the firewall and removed the dash. The replacements are carbon fiber. I'd like to add a carbon console made in the same way. Here is the power I decided on: 2006 LQ4. Will have a carb on it with the MSD timing controller. I repurposed the headers seen on the 18 degree motor. I'll post some pictures of those shortly. Attachment 16587 Attachment 16588 Attachment 16589 i bought the Hinson mounts but had to cut them up and add some to them. My motor is around an inch further back and it's actuall tilted up slightly at the front. I don't expect any driveline issues as the transmission mount bolted up with some mild convincing. I also have a mid plate as pictured. I had to do this because I wanted to keep the stock oil pan to ensure people would believe it's a bone stock junk yard motor. When I take it back out (whenever that may be) I will change to an f body pan and lower my mounts some. |

I had to adress the issue of not having headlights in my bumper and I hate flip up headlights with a passion. I bought an eBay knockoff bumper. It didn't fit worth a crap. I should have spent a few more bucks and bought the real deal with the fenders that fit the bumper.
